Easy Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website With Blogging

marketing + sales

Blogs are one of the best ways to increase traffic, engage your site visitors, and showcase your expertise — all in one place! If you haven’t been blogging for your business, that’s alright, but now could be the perfect time to change that.

We know that writing may not be everyone's cup of tea (remember, there's no one-size-fits-all strategy in business!), but there are so many ways to have fun and share great information on your blog. Plus, when you focus on a few simple things, you can show up in new places online and even convert new visitors. It’s worth a try when you think about it like that!

Why Blogging Is So Important

Blogging can be fun — you get to share more in-depth knowledge about the things you love. But this isn't your high school diary, love! Blogging is a powerful resource for online business owners, so naturally, there are many things that make a blog important.

It can drive traffic to your site, which can turn visitors into clients/customers

Who doesn't want more website visitors?! Blogging helps get your site noticed by search engines because there are more opportunities to show up on the search engine results page (SERP). Using specific keywords and topics, blogs can be a great way to show up higher on those search results without paying for ads. That means more leads, opt-ins, and a higher chance for conversions!

You can repurpose blog content easily

We know there is a tremendous amount of pressure to create gorgeous content… everywhere. It can get exhausting, which is why we're such big fans of blogging! We’re not trying to give you one more type of content to create. Instead, we want to show you how you can turn your posts into easily-read pieces of content on social media and elsewhere.

By creating your blog first and then repurposing it into other mediums, you can strengthen your overall messaging, drive website traffic, and help solidify your online presence.

Say hello to long-term results!

Blogging shows people that you are an expert in your field. When people can see some sort of evidence that supports your amazing offers, they're more likely to trust you as a voice of authority. Remember: When someone sees your offer, they’re likely to go find your website, social media accounts, and even read blogs before they make a decision to buy from or book with you.

How To Create Quality Blogs

Creating blogs isn't enough to make them work for your goals; instead, you have to make sure you take the correct approach to blogging and optimizing your content. You may have heard a thing or two about search engine optimization (SEO) and why it's so important for writing blogs, but it isn't the only thing that will make your blogs a successful part of your top-notch marketing strategy.

Getting eyes on your blog is half the battle. The other half? Creating content that converts those readers into clients or customers — or at least loyal fans!

Mind your word count

According to the SEO experts at HubSpot, the sweet spot for your word count is at least 1,000 words (2,100-2,400 words is ideal on average). This gives you enough space to fully flesh out a great idea and bring in evidence to back it up.

Plus, the more content you have, the better chances you have of landing a spot on higher-ranked pages! Most people don't make it past page three of their Google search, so this is really important.

Include your keywords

Keywords are one of the most important pieces of your blog post. Include strong keywords relevant to your business AND the content you share in both your headline and the post itself. Keywords should fit like a puzzle piece into your writing, so much so that you wouldn't even realize they're there unless you knew what to look for.

This is one of the best ways to help your posts get picked up by search engines while still staying true to your brand's style! If you’re not sure what keywords to use, think about your topics and pull out certain phrases you think that your audience would search for. Then, drop those phrases into Google and see what comes up! You may find competitor content that uses the same keyword, or you may find new keywords in the “People Also Search” section at the bottom of the Google results page.

Write content your people want to see

We know how fun it can be to get wrapped up in your next brilliant idea, but if you're continuously putting content out there that your target audience may not be interested in, it can cause your website traffic to take a dive.

If you've had a social media following for a while, think about the types of content that are the most successful. What topics did you talk about? How did you deliver the content?

When in doubt, solve a problem! If you know your people struggle to show up consistently on Instagram, write about practical ways that they can do that. If people aren’t sure how to use a particular software you use, create a blog showing them how to use it.

If you aren't sure where to start, try sending out a content survey to your email list or post it as a poll on your Instagram Stories! You can ask what questions people have (related to your area of expertise).

Make your content accessible

Your website and blog posts may be the only opportunity some people have to interact with your brand. Make it easy and comfortable for them to do so!

You can make blog content accessible by ensuring your blog posts are scannable and easy to read (through bullets, headings, and graphics), using headings where they belong, and getting descriptive with your links, alt text, and images! Don't just use random keywords or unrelated phrases either — make sure to include detailed text about what each section, image, or link is.

Using images in your posts

Even though blog posts are text-heavy, you still want to make each one visually appealing! Images and graphics can help your people better understand your content and reinforce the main points.

Visuals aren't just to look pretty, either! Google can better pull your content in search results with quality images. When incorporating images, don't forget to use high-quality, non-pixelated images and always include alt text. This means describing the image, not just including your keyword phrase or your business name!
